The Book Odyssey - From the first T-shirt commission in 1989 to the 2006 publication of “The Extraordinary T-shirt Quilt - The Scrapbook You Can Sleep Under”, this book was a long held dream. Stories of the projects along the way, plus tips for writing and marketing to quilters.

Kaleidoscopes and quiltmaking - Circular designs with radial and reflective symmetry make appealling quilts. Repeating wedges rather than squares or rectangles make this a natural step for quiltmakers. Examples of Lauren’s work plus a step by step demo of her use of reverse applique and decorative thread embellishments to create her kaleidoscope quilts.

Workshops - Half Day (3 hours) $300 plus expenses

Shiny Reverse Appliqué by Machine - Half Day - Use layering and reverse appliqué to handle fragile lame´s or silks that fray when you look at them. Sewing machine required.

Log Cabin Improvisation - Half day or more - Play, play, play at the sewing machine while exploring color principles. Everyone brings scrap bag strips to add to the pot and goes home with a top.

T-shirt Quilt Design for Professionals - Half day - Teaching how to design a T-shirt quilt AND/OR T-shirt quilt skills for the quiltmaking professional. This class is for teachers and/or experienced quiltmakers who accept commission work. The emphasis here is on creating a lovely composition from many sizes and colors of motifs in an efficient way. (Lots of design practice - no sewing.) We’ll talk about common student questions and problems. Dealing with unusual shirts and garment details will also be covered. Discussions will include contracts, how to talk to and listen to clients, project management tips, and other the class members questions. I will demonstrate shirt prep and sewing techniques, but THIS IS NOT A PROJECT CLASS.

The Scrapbook You Can Sleep Under - (6 hours) Create your own quilt design using your own collection of shirts in this hands on workshop. Techniques for working with shirts are demonstrated and all facets of construction discussed. Students create a plan for their own T-shirt quilt and practice skills to make their quilt at their own pace. Sewing machine optional in class, but needed at home. Suitable for both beginning and experienced quiltmakers.

Color Confidence - Exercises done in fused fabric give students hands-on experience in creating gorgeous color combinations. A challenging but satisfying class. No sewing machine required. Suitable for beginners and experienced quiltmakers both.

Fabric Bonsai - These tiny Japanese trees are perfect subjects for learning about techniques for creating foliage with thread and fabric and perfecting machine appliqué techniques. Patterns for numerous types of plants and pots that can be mixed and matched are provided. Bring sewing machine. Some appliqué experience helpful.
